Celebrating the origins of Muddy Trowel and over 1000 customers!

We founded Muddy Trowel in April 2020, to help the garden centre industry during the first COVID-19 lockdown deliver their plants. Since then, Muddy Trowel (and the world) has adapted to a fundamental change to how we work and interact with each-other.

Last month, we officially delivered plant joy to our 1000th customer in London and the South East. Our plant kits have helped many amateur and aspiring gardeners get into gardening for the first time, transformed outdoor spaces in customers’ new homes, and been wonderful surprises for many who have been gifted our collections.

We are really proud of our origins in St Albans, and with London’s population set to decline for the first time in over 30 years (with, according to PwC, 300,000 people upping sticks) and with many people reluctant to restart the daily commute, cities like St Albans are experiencing an influx of entrepreneurial talent and the formation of new exciting businesses.

To celebrate the beginnings of Muddy Trowel, we have launched ‘The Alban’ plant collection which has plants in the striking yellow and blue colours of the St Albans saltire flag. Launching ‘The Alban’ collection is a little nod to the amazing St Albans community and the way we have all pulled together as a city over the last year or so. The enthusiasm and support for independent businesses in St Albans is so heartening, and we hope to colour the city blue and yellow year after year with this collection of pots and window boxes dedicated to the origins of Muddy Trowel.

We continue to evolve at Muddy Trowel, with big and exciting changes on the horizon. Not only are we thinking in the next few months about what new plants and products we can release, but we are also growing our team, so please do keep an eye on our new jobs page here.

Thank you for your support, if you are interested in our journey, we would encourage you to sign up to our newsletter here. Happy planting!
